One click, every field: a translation agent for Umbraco

Why page translation stalls

Every multilingual Umbraco site knows the routine. A page is finished in the primary language, and now it needs to exist in Danish, German, French. The editor opens the second culture and faces forty-odd fields: headings, rich text, image captions, nested blocks three levels deep, meta titles and descriptions. The usual answer is copy-paste through a browser translation tool, field by field, and hope nothing gets missed.

The result is predictable: secondary languages lag weeks behind, SEO fields quietly stay in English, and nobody is quite sure which version of which page was actually reviewed by a person who speaks the language.

Machine translation was never the bottleneck. Trust in what gets published was.

What the agent does

We've released Translation Agent on the Umbraco Marketplace. It translates a whole Umbraco page in one click - every property, nested block content and SEO fields included - using the AI provider you already configured through Umbraco AI, whether that's OpenAI, Azure or Anthropic. There is no separate translation service to sign up for and no second set of API keys to manage.

dotnet add package Flowcourier.Umbraco.AI.Agents.Translation

An editor opens a page, picks the target language and requests a translation. The agent walks the entire content model - Block List, Block Grid, rich text, plain fields, meta properties - and produces the full page in the target culture. Because it works at the content-model level rather than scraping rendered HTML, structure survives: blocks stay blocks, links stay links, and nothing that shouldn't be translated (settings, media references) gets touched.

A human approves every word

This is the part we care most about. Translations are never published directly - they are saved as drafts, and every request names a reviewer who has to approve before anything goes live. The reviewer gets an email notification, and if the request sits untouched, an automatic reminder follows (24 hours by default).

A dedicated Translation Workflow dashboard in Umbraco's Translation section tracks every request across languages: what's waiting, on whom, and for how long. For an EU organisation this is the difference between an AI feature the legal team tolerates and one it signs off on - the model does the typing, a named person stays accountable for what gets published in every language.

Setup and what Pro adds

The package is free, including commercial production use. It needs Umbraco 17.5+ on .NET 10 and Umbraco AI Copilot with a configured LLM provider and default chat profile; SMTP is optional and only needed for the approval and reminder emails. Install, assign reviewers, translate.

For teams running many languages at volume, a Translation Pro licence unlocks batch translation across pages, Azure Translator support for 100+ languages, and termbase enforcement - so your product names, legal phrases and brand vocabulary are translated the same way every time, on every page.
